Kazakhstan harvests 20 mln tonnes of grain, 5 mln more than in 2019

NUR-SULTAN, Kazakhstan – In Kazakhstan, grain harvesting has been completed at 99.5% of the total harvesting area, Agriculture Minister Saparkhan Omarov told a government meeting on October 6.

“In total, 20.1 million tonnes of grain were threshed in the republic. In 2019, for this period, 14.8 million tonnes were threshed. This volume will fully meet the country’s internal need and realise the export potential in the amount of 7-8 million tonnes of grain,” the minister said.

Compared to 2019, 1 million tonnes of grain more were delivered to elevators, with 80% of the incoming grain with high quality characteristics, while in 2019 this figure was 54.4%.

Grain is the third main export commodity in Kazakhstan due to its quality: high gluten content. Kazakhstan is one of the three largest grain producers after Russia and Ukraine among the republics of the former USSR.
