Finally a big relief for Muslim women. The Supreme Court on Tuesday announced its verdict on the legality of the Islamic personal law practice of Triple Talaq. Three judges have termed the Triple Talaq as unconstitutional and set it aside.
The verdict was announced by a five-judge bench headed by Chief Justice of India JS Kehar. Justice Nariman, Lalit and Kurien have opposed Chief Justice of India JS Khehar and Justice Nazir’s view. Justice Khehar, who first read his judgement, had asked the central government to bring a legislation and Parliament to look into the matter.
